The CBL Participates in the Safe Sport Forum Hosted by the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB)
In November, the Vice President of the Confederação Brasileira de Lacrosse (CBL), Celso S. Tanabe, along with Operations Lead Eduardo Medeiros, represented the CBL at the Safe Sport Forum, held in Rio de Janeiro and organized by the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB).
The forum brought together leaders and sport professionals from across Brazil to discuss key topics related to ethics, integrity, and athlete protection within the sporting environment. High-level presentations addressed themes such as “Ethics and Integrity in Sport,” “Regulation and Legislation,” and “Prevention and Detection of Match Manipulation,” highlighting the growing importance of governance and preventive policies across national sport organizations.
Discussions also covered the integration between the COB and the International Olympic Committee (IOC), as well as emerging issues related to sports betting legislation, funding mechanisms, and resource allocation. Particular attention was given to the increasing influence of sports betting companies in global sport and the associated risks, including match manipulation. Recent real-world cases were presented, underscoring the urgency of coordinated strategies to detect, prevent, and combat these practices.
The forum further addressed critical subjects such as gender equality and various forms of harassment in sport, with an emphasis on education, awareness, and institutional responsibility. The COB encouraged all affiliated organizations to actively engage in the specialized Safe Sport courses available through its online learning platform.
CBL’s participation in the Safe Sport Forum reinforces the Confederation’s ongoing commitment to good governance, ethical conduct, and the protection of athletes and stakeholders. Internal CBL policies related to Safe Sport, integrity, and safeguarding are currently under development, and in the coming months the Confederation will provide guidance and educational initiatives to further promote a safe, respectful, and transparent environment for the growth of lacrosse in Brazil.
