EPROCAD Foundation Introduces Lacrosse Through Training Provided by the Brazilian Lacrosse Confederation
October 2026
Initiative connects coach education, educator training, and the implementation of a pilot project focused on the holistic development of children and adolescents through educational sport.
The coach education program delivered by the Brazilian Lacrosse Confederation (CBL) through its Level 1 Coaching Course has led to a new initiative at the EPROCAD Foundation, a civil society organization dedicated to promoting the development of children and adolescents through sport, education, and culture. Building on the knowledge acquired during the training, lacrosse has become part of the institution’s social and sports programming through a pilot project designed to expand access to new sporting experiences and explore the educational potential of the sport.
The initiative represents an effort to introduce lacrosse beyond traditional sporting environments, bringing the sport into educational settings and community-based organizations. The proposal is to use its fundamentals and gameplay as educational tools to encourage participants’ motor, cognitive, and social development.
From Technical Training to Community Sports Practice
The introduction of lacrosse at the EPROCAD Foundation began with representatives of the institution participating in CBL’s Level 1 Coaching Course. The training provided an introduction to the sport’s technical and tactical fundamentals, rules, equipment, and potential applications, establishing the foundation for developing an implementation plan tailored to the institution’s setting.
As a next step, the Foundation organized training for its educators to share the knowledge acquired and prepare the team to introduce lacrosse to the children and adolescents they serve.
The session included representatives from CBL, including Professor Oscar, who led the coaching course, President Manolo, and Director Cristina, as well as lacrosse coaches and a referee. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the development of lacrosse in Brazil, the challenges of expanding the sport, and opportunities to introduce it in a wider range of settings.
The subsequent training session was delivered with André Viana and Gizelli Rossi and combined theoretical instruction with practical activities. Topics included the history of lacrosse, its fundamentals, equipment, key rules, and safety considerations. Educators also took part in on-court activities, practicing basic movements and gameplay that can be adapted to the different age groups served by the institution.
Educator training is a strategic stage of this process, as it enables technical knowledge to be incorporated into educational planning and applied in a context-sensitive way, taking into account participants’ characteristics, educational objectives, and the conditions in which activities will take place.
Pilot Project: Lacrosse Through the Lens of Educational Sport
Following the technical training and educator development sessions, the EPROCAD Foundation began implementing its pilot project, Lacrosse for All: Experiences with an Olympic Sport Through the Lens of Educational Sport. Planned to run for three months, the project targets children and adolescents served by the institution.
The initiative was designed to introduce lacrosse progressively, respecting participants’ learning processes and prioritizing exploration, participation, and the collective construction of knowledge. The program includes technical and educational content organized into stages that progress from familiarization with the sport to games and group activities.
The initial stage, Getting to Know Lacrosse, covers the sport’s history and culture, safety, equipment familiarization, introductory games, and the fundamentals of stick handling, passing, and catching. Participants then move into Learning to Play, where they are introduced to shooting, movement, spatial awareness, and small-sided games, with opportunities to participate in the collaborative development of rules.
The program also includes a Lacrosse Sixes Festival, featuring small-sided games, an educational tournament, group discussions, and participant self-assessment. This stage aims to consolidate learning, recognize participants’ engagement, and provide a shared experience of participation in the sport.
The progressive organization of the curriculum allows sporting skills to be developed alongside important competencies for social interaction and participation. In this context, lacrosse is approached not simply as a sporting activity, but as a tool for educational engagement.
A New Pathway for Expanding Lacrosse in Brazil
The EPROCAD Foundation’s experience demonstrates how technical training, professional development, and the application of sporting knowledge can come together in community-based projects. By transforming the knowledge acquired through CBL’s Level 1 Coaching Course into a structured educational initiative, the project helps bring lacrosse to new audiences and settings.
The partnership with the Brazilian Lacrosse Confederation and the involvement of the Foundation’s educators are important elements of this process. Its success depends on professional development, the educational adaptation of activities, and the creation of opportunities for children and adolescents to discover and experience the sport.
More than introducing a new sport, the project aims to broaden participants’ motor skills and cultural experiences, encourage collective participation, and strengthen the role of sport as a tool for education and human development.
With the launch of the pilot project, the EPROCAD Foundation begins a new chapter in its social and sports programming while contributing to the expansion of lacrosse across Brazil. The expectation is that the experiences and lessons gained during this initial phase will help refine the program and create new opportunities to introduce and grow the sport.
